Welcome to Course 6 - Wilderness Travel
"Wilderness Travel" is the sixth course in our Backpacking 101 lecture series. You now have a strong grasp on all the types of clothing and gear used in the outdoor world as well as how to plan and navigate your backpacking trip. Now its time to develop the skills and knowhow you will need to travel through what ever terrain the backcountry will throw at you. In this course we will cover the proper skills and techniques used in wilderness travel and how to handle different obstacles and terrain.
In this course we will cover all the essentials of traversing through the wilderness so that you can have greatest chance for a safe and successful trip. These essentials include; basic routefinding and how it applies when your on the trail, hiking techniques to maximize your energy levels, how to utilize the rest step, how to travel as a group, how to deal with wildlife on the trail, traversing through snow, brush, scree, and other harsh terrain, and river crossing techniques.
